It is with sadness that we announce that Rev. Julian McCready - ringer and friend, passed away peacefully at Rotherham Hospital at 9.30 am today, Friday 30 July 2010.
Our thoughts are with his family.
Once we know the funeral arrangements we will circulate the details.
Our coach outing to the East Yorkshire coast on 26th June was a lovely sunny day out, enjoyed by all. A total of 30 ringers attended (plus one non-ringer) and we almost covered the cost of the coach and the tower donations. We raised £47 with our raffle on the coach . There was plenty of time to explore Filey and at Scarborough we joined thousands to watch the Armed Forces Day celebrations along the sea front. We enjoyed some good ringing, the bells at Flamborough were lovely and the Church was full of character. The very light Filey bells were fun to ring , whilst the 10 bells at Scarborough were not easy but we did quite well. The best bells of the day were at our last tower which was Norton, these were an absolute pleasure to ring.

Our May meeting at Hooton Pagnell and Hemsworth was enjoyable and we were joined by a total of 20 bell ringers, at different stages during the evening, including 5 visitors - from Kent, Darton, Hemsworth, Knottingley and Estrick. The estate village of Hooton Pagnell was lovely and was set in beautiful countryside. There was a total of 9 bells, 3 hung for ringing (tenor 6cwt) and 6 hung dead for chiming and tunes. We were welcomed by the Vicar Rev David Lethbridge, who was an ex-ringer and very much regretted that there were not more bells hung for ringing in his church. Ringing the 3 bells was an interesting experience, the treble was awkward to handle but the bells were melodic. We rang rounds, Plain Hunting and Steadman front work. The bells at Hemsworth were very light (8 bells, 7cwt), the front bells were rather flighty but they sounded nice and needed to be rung briskly. We rang call changes, PB Major, Little Bob Major, Grandsire, Stedman and Yorkshire.
Notice of Central Branch outing to North Nottingham on Saturday 19th June 2010. Central Branch (Yorkshire Association) are holding a car outing to North Notts next Saturday, all welcome, details are on the download page.

Our April meeting at Harworth and Tickhill was very enjoyable, there were 12 ringers at Harworth and 18 ringers at Tickhill. We rang Woodbine, rounds, call changes, Plain Hunt, Grandsire Doubles and Triples, Plain Bob Major, Double Norwich, Yorkshire and Stedman. Many thanks to Jean and Derek Wagstaff for organising such a delicious tea at Tickhill Church.

Service and practice times for ringing at the above towers are available for download. Annabelle will update the list regularly and a copy will be placed on the website download page.
Sixteen ringers attended our March meeting at Adwick. The bells are somewhat challenging but we rang rounds, call changes, plain hunt, Grandsire, Kent, Primrose, Stedman and Oxford. Our thanks to Harold and Joy for giving us such a warm welcome and providing tea and cakes.
The mini outing to Nottingham was a great day out, with 20 ringers participating. We were joined for the whole trip by Richard Westman (who is studying at Nottingham Trent University and rings at most of the towers), the rest of the Westman family rang with us during the afternoon.
It was great fun travelling on the tram between towers, the trams were crowded but we managed to keep together. We were very lucky with the bells, they all went well, were easy to hear and sound lovely. My favourite were the bells of St Leodegarius, Basford (8bells, 14cwt, 1921 Taylors). These were a 1st World War memorial to the fallen men of Basford and our tower contact, Rueben Carlisle (aged 95), was present at the inauguration service in 1921 and had rung there all his life!
We enjoyed a 2 hour lunch break in Nottingham city centre, which gave plenty of time for lunch and exploring. Although we were slightly disappointed not to be able to ring at St Peters (12, 25cwt) in the centre of the city, we did enjoy ringing the 10 bells (16cwt) of All Saints, Nottingham University where we rang call changes, Grandsire Caters, Stedman Caters and Little Bob Royal.
Our AGM on 30th January was very well attended. There were 25 ringers at St George's Minster and 32 people at the AGM afterwards. Many thanks to Rev Julian McCready for taking the Service. In the absence of our elected president Rev Canon Christopher Smith, who has just retired, Roger Smith (our Vice President) chaired the AGM in an efficient manner. The minutes of the meeting will be available shortly on the website. The meeting was followed by a delicious pie and pea supper, which was organised by Sarah Hackett. Evening ringing took place at Bentley, at one point 22 ringers were squeezed into the small tower. The very light bells were in great contrast to the majestic but heavy bells of St George's. We rang call changes and a number of 5 bells methods including St Nicholas and All Saints doubles. Thanks to all those who contributed to making it such an enjoyable event.
